Jay-Z phoned the Shade 45 Morning Show the morning after he premiered “Jockin’ Jay-Z” at Kanye West’s “Glow in the Dark” tour. Elliott Wilson was co-hosting the show and had written the cover story of Vibe’s 15th Anniversary on Jay and got him to call in. What more can I say… don’t ask him no stupid shit!
Jay talked about his performance the night before at Madison Square Garden. He intended to be a spectator that night but Kanye wanted to perform their new record “Jockin Jay-Z.” He gives us his thoughts on the Vibe magazine article and how Elliott aka ‘Half’ snitched on him. The line got cut off but luckily we got him back…
When he called, he was on his way to meet with the mayor. They were throwing a block party in the city. “In a very innocent way, Jay-Z loves the kids.” He talks about the early stages of recording ‘Blueprint 3’ and how he tricked Timbaland into thinking he was producing the whole album. Then he addresses the rumors of his Live Nation deal falling apart. Angela asks him about his plans for kids in the future when he said “he wanted an Angela Yee on the side.”
Jay apologizes to Elliott for calling him a snitch although he “wrote some things he wasn’t supposed to.” Angela reminisced about the first time she met Jay back before “Dead Presidents” came out. Then he told a story of how he saved Angela from a “fiery death.” Ha! Angela talks about the level 5 access she used to have back in the day.
We could not seem to get Jay-Z off the phone. He talked some more about ‘Blueprint 3’ and the one undeniable record he has. Elliott tried to get some more information about the record but Jay wasn’t budging. Elliott then asks him about how he deals with producers egos. After a long goodbye, our transition phone call with Jay was up. And so was my first week at Shade 45.
