Jay-Z and Angela Yee were spotted at the New Jersey Nets game on Friday. Angela attended the game with Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy. “Damn…@angelayee jus left me @cthagod 2 be with her old friends jay z and @LittleBurger….” Envy said via Twitter. Jay and Ang go way back, to a time when Jay was rockin’ Durango boots and having rap battles with The GZA.
“He says I owe him because he helped my career with this interview from February 2005. And he’s kinda right, this was one of my biggest interviews in my first couple of months at Sirius when I was Cipha Sounds’ co-host. Hova had just been appointed president of Def Jam and came up to discuss that, with his artists Memphis Bleek and Young Chris. We talked about the size of his “cock,” my hair catching on fire at an Eminem party, and his fashion sense in the early 90’s.” (Yee, ’09)
In August 2008, Jay-Z called up the morning show after he performed “Jockin’ Jay-Z” for the first time at Kanye West’s Madison Square Garden date of his “Glow In The Dark” tour. Elliott Wilson had just written the 15th Anniversary VIBE cover story on Jay and was co-hosting the show. He gives us his thoughts on the VIBE article and how Elliott, aka ‘Half’ snitched on him.
When he called, he was on his way to meet with the mayor. They were throwing a block party in the city. “In a very innocent way, Jay-Z loves the kids.” Angela asks him about his plans for kids in the future and he said “he wanted an Angela Yee on the side.”
Angela reminisced about the first time she met Jay back before “Dead Presidents” came out. Then he told a story of how he saved Angela from a “fiery death.” Ha! Angela talks about the level 5 access she used to have back in the day.
He talked some more about ‘Blueprint 3’ and the one undeniable record he has. Elliott then asks him about how he deals with producers egos. After a long goodbye, our “transition phone call” with Jay was up.
