Wiz Khalifa rolled up to The Breakfast Club to drop off his first single, “Work Hard, Play Hard” off his sophomore album O.N.I.F.C., due out the end of August. Wiz discusses Taylor Gang and working with Juicy J. “He’s not my artist, it’s not like he’s up under me. I couldn’t do that to Juicy J, I couldn’t make him my artist, it’s more, we work together.”
Charlamagne questions his signing of Lola Monroe and Angela notes how Lola’s improved since she started rapping. Wiz responds, “She’s raw talent, she’s a lyricist. Everybody gets better. You can listen to my old stuff and I don’t sound how I do now. Like a found my swag. People are watching her now cuz she’s in the early stages of her career. But she’s gonna be huge. So keep watching.”
On why he didn’t sign Amber Rose, Wiz says: “I don’t want her touring, it gets rough out there on the road.”. He discusses wanting to start a family soon.”
Angela mentions Wiz being featured at #11 on Forbes Hip Hop Cash Kings list. Charlamagne asks, “How do you make all that money? Shows and what else?”
“[Merchandise], the Taylor Gang stuff, the [rolling] papers, everything. We’re selling the whole lifestyle, it’s more than just the music. I really keyed in on that people: they want to be you, they don’t wanna just hear you. So we give that to people and we make it accessible for everybody. Our tickets are affordable. That’s another thing, I always want to make my shows affordable. I don’t want $150 tickets for my shows, I don’t want to get to that point. I’ll give you that show where you feel like you should pay that, but you’re not gonna have to pay that to come to my show.”
Listen to Wiz talk about the longest he went without smoking, how he proposed to Amber, his thoughts on Kanye West shouting him out in “Way Too Cold”, Barney’s incident, Waka Flocka beef and what made him start smoking.
