Treach and J.D. Williams joined The Breakfast Club to talk about their roles in Zoo The Movie, based on New Jersey’s infamous Zoo Crew. Du “Doitall” Kelly from Lords of the Underground is a producer on the film and Jermaine “Huggy” Hopkins plays the lead character Mustafa; he spoke to TBC about the part.
“The Zoo Crew was a notorious crew out of Jersey that came up early 90’s. They were gettin’ it, they were in a street gang. They was handling business, slanging that stuff out there and one instant came where a young lady got shot and killed by police and they turned into activists. Along with that coming along, that’s when the powers that be said these guys are more organized than we thought with the businesses and everything that was going on. That’s when the FBI and the whole enforcement start coming in and really became the next level of catching these guys.” -Treach
They ask Treach about artists’ not living the lifestyle they rap about.
“The music is music. It’s supposed to be entertaining. if you hear somebody talking the gangster lifestyle. I look at it like you looking at a movie. It’s a gangsta movie. Don’t go out there and try to be Scarface cuz there’s consequences. They say cut, they go home after they kill 30 people. You, you go down for life. You got to know the difference of what’s entertainment and not and knowing everybody is not living this lifestyle. And if you are, you’re not smart to continue doing it. I’m not gonna be rich, and just go out and flip a key. I ain’t got to prove nothing to nobody. I got into this music so I can live and supply for my family.”
