Plaxico Burress joined The Breakfast Club to discuss his release from prison and playing again in the NFL for the New York Jets. DJ Envy asked him if he heard about the tasing incident during the Jets/Cowboys game in opening week. Plax said, “It was brought to my attention by Rex, our coach. It’s an unfortunate situation that you can’t even go to a sporting event and really enjoy yourself anymore.”
Charlamagne Tha God blamed the incident on Rex Ryan, by saying Rex set a hostile environment for telling fans they couldn’t wear Cowboys gear. Plax said, “You got to have a lot of heart to wear a Cowboys uniform in the Jets stadium,” and defended his coach. C tha God responded by saying, “Sometimes you have to bring weapons into places to protect yourself,” as Plaxico knows.
Angela Yee asked him if he was nervous that he wouldn’t get picked up from a team. “No, I wasn’t nervous at all,” Plax says. “When I sat there and looked at the TV and saw some of those guys playing wide receiver, I knew I still had a shot.” He talks about meeting with his former team, the New York Giants. He said it was good seeing some of the players and getting closure from the situation. He talks about signing with the NY Jets saying, “I just wanted something new, I just wanted something fresh.”
He said he stayed in shape in jail by running and doing leg exercises. He talks about the way he was treated in jail saying, “It was definitely a lot of things going one as far as being treated differently by certain correctional officers, and racial things being said, different things like that. They look at a guy like me going into prison. And here they are, they going to work, busting there tail everyday, working.” He said they told him “everyday” he was stupid for being there.
He talks about the media’s involvement after the shooting, Mayor Bloomberg‘s comments, why he had a gun with him, Jets chances on making it to the Super Bowl, playing the Giants on Christmas Eve, his relationship with Eli Manning, resigning his deal with Nike, how he got his name, and if he still feels the need to carry a gun.
