Donnell Rawlings visited The Breakfast Club before his weekend shows at Caroline’s in New York bearing gifts for the crew. He gave drinking glasses and a piggy bank to Angela, an “I’m Rich Bitch” bracelet to Envy, a pooper scooper to Charlamagne, and a “Take It In The Face” t-shirt to Q (Breakfast Club producer and Green Bay Packers fan).
Rawlings worked at Power 105.1 before his early exit. “I didn’t get fired, they moved in another direction.” he says jokingly. The day he was let go, Donnell’s key card didn’t work and his boss was telling him everything he did good but said, “‘Yeaahh, No, we’re not going to be able to [keep you].’ It wasn’t the first time he was let go; he was fired from the station down the street and from his job with Big Tigga in D.C.
He talks about his brother being gay and how he asks Donnell for relationship advice. “He’ll ask me, ‘How you feel about so and so?’ And I would keep it gangster like, ‘Yo son, you feeling this dude or what? Is this your mans, is he going to be your mans or what? I wouldn’t be able to be like, ‘So how you feel about him?’
On the subject of Donnell keeping in contact with Dave Chappelle, he says, “First, I don’t speak Swahili, that’s his language of choice now. Nah, I don’t have contact.” He said a reunion has never been discussed before. “I doubt Dave would ever come back and do the show as a season but I was like, it would be interesting if we could do a one-off, an hour special or something. And the reason, It’s been a while, like 6 or 7 years, but because the way Dave left the show, it’s a lot of unanswered questions.”
Watch the rest of the interview to see if Donnell thinks Chappelle is crazy, his hopes to find the right vehicle to have his own show, his interest in white chicks, his favorite role play, the Mister Cee incident, and more!
