“I said on the new ‘Dreamchasers 2’, I’m a student of the game so I’ve studied it and I’ve watched it. And a lot of winners before me and a lot of winners after me. But when it comes to the mixtapes and it comes to the streets, nobody’s had a run like mine.”
DJ Drama stopped by The Breakfast Club to discuss his new album, turning down Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, iChat sex with his wife Summer Walker, The Lost Tape mixtape with 50 Cent and more.
“That’s one of the reasons I didn’t do [‘Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta’], because I have a career. And respect to everyone who is doing it, I have a lot of respect for Mona Scott. I’ve watched it, it’s entertaining for what it is. I had a couple conversations with some very respectable people in the business for advice and they told me, ‘probably not.'”
“They do what they want to do. The reason why I feel, even a show like T.I.’s show is different is because, you can clearly tell who has creative control in what situations. When I watch ‘Love and Hip Hop’, when I watched the first season, I’m like, that whole scenario is set-up. That was put there. They told them to do this.”
“He’s somebody I came up on in the mixtape game. He said something in an interview recently like, when a person gives someone a mixtape and says, yo check me out. That comes from him. That real talk. I look at the mixtape game, there was a pre-50 cent mixtape game and a pos-50cent mixtape game. And I’m a product of the post 50 cent mixtape game. So for us to be coming together and doing this project, it’s a good look.”
