I have to admit, even before interviewing Amerie for her “In Love and War” album I was disappointed with the lack of promotion surrounding her release. She is someone who is extremely marketable and talented, as well as intelligent so it should be a no-brainer. In any case, watch the video and see if you agree:
Amerie talks about releasing her latest album on Def Jam, instead of her former label Columbia Records, and her relationship with LA Reid:
“I’m really cool with the people that are there… When a company (Columbia) is going through structural changes, things can suffer. Creatively I just felt like there weren’t a lot of things we can do because everytime I would have someone in pocket they would be laid off or someone would change or this person’s now doing this…”
Amerie says she’s never dated anyone famous:
“I have gotten some things where they’ll be like their agent, it’s kind of cold and impersonal… they’ll send their agent and be like “oh such and such, they’ll tell your manager or someone at the label that, and it’s kind of cold because they don’t know you…”
On keeping out of the rumor mill:
“Sometimes people get so much into the tabloids you would think when their movie drops or their cd comes out everyone’s gonna get it but they don’t because they’re just into the drama…Scarlett Johannson probably is someone I look at and I love the decisions that she’s made, the roles that she’s chosen, the movies she’s done. The only time she’s in the tabloids is like what she’s wearing, and to me that’s good.”
