Spike Lee Talks Funding Film through Kickstarter

Spike Lee returned to The Breakfast Club to discuss raising funding for his new film through Kickstarter.com. He’s raised $800,000 out of his goal of $1.25 million. He’s received some backlash by people who argue that he shouldn’t be using funding from the website to make his film. Lee responds saying he’s sought funding for all of his films, albeit in different ways as the internet didn’t exist in the ’80’s. He didn’t say much about the film except that it’s about people who are addicted to blood (hint: they aren’t vampires). He also discusses the Nets and Knicks rivalry, Brooklyn gentrification and high rents, appearing on the cover of Ebony magazine with his son to honor Trayvon Martin, crime in African-American communities, and Nike sneaker deal.
