Roxanne Shante Fesses Up
In what has turned into a bizarre twist of events, Roxanne Shante admitted on Tuesday that she never earned a PhD in Psychology from Cornell University as was originally reported by the New York Daily News last August. After reading Shante’s heartfelt story which claimed the retired rapper’s former label, Warner Music, funded her college education, online magazine Slate.com published a story discrediting Shante’s claim.
At first Shante disputed Slate.com’s piece by saying the reason no records of her attendance existed was because she enrolled under her “old name.” Unable to keep the lie going, Roxanne decided to tell the truth yesterday by releasing the following statement:
“It is very easy to criticize someone and I have left myself open to criticism. All I can say to that is before you level any further criticism and cynicism, walk in my shoes. I am making this statement to apologize to the people that truly care about me for any angst that this situation has caused, and to thank them for their continued support…Like all of you, I am human and may have not made the correct decision all the time. And, like anyone else, I would like to think that my entire life or career is not judged by one error or mistake.”
