Janelle Monae dropped by The Breakfast Club with one of her new artists named Jidenna, a rapper who has lived in several cities but calls Brooklyn home, to talk about her imprint, now full-fledged label (Wondaland Records), how she met Jidenna at a masquerade ball in Los Angeles, his new catchy single “Classic Man” and more. It’s the first track released by the label. Newly partnered with Epic Records, Wondaland plans to release a compilation in May, and have plans to rocket-launch their movement unlike any other collective in modern day. All artists in the collective are close-knit, and look out for each other. They have a “no one left behind” policy. All artists write and produce their own music, which is rarity in the business today.
Watch as Janelle talks about the marginalization of women in the industry, guiding her movement, and how she plans to change the landscape, one more time.
