Chris Tucker Calls In The Breakfast Club
Chris Tucker called in The Breakfast Club to promote his upcoming show in Westbury, NY. He talks about going back to his roots doing stand up. Charlamagne asked Chris if he’s going broke. He said, “[Comedians] always go broke, you just got to go back out there and make some more money.” Envy asked him if he’s ever nervous about getting booed. “No,” he says. “I make sure I’m prepared before I get on stage. Every show is different, you got to be ready for it.”
Chris talks about being selective with the movie roles he takes. He said, “It’s not a lot of good stuff out there, I always want to keep going to the next level. People ask me how come I didn’t do another Friday, because I always wanted to keep going. I came from the school of watching Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor. They always did something better than what they did before.”
Following his breakout role in Friday, he starred in Money Talks and then the Rush Hour films. “After that, there was nothing out there. I wanted those movies that Tom Cruise was getting, and all these big guys was getting. But they just wasn’t coming, so I just decided to step back,” Tucker says.
When asked if he would do another Friday movie, he responded: “I don’t think I’ll do another one. It was a time in my life, and a time in a lot of other peoples lives, that made [Friday] work; and I think now it would just be for money. People want to see it, but I don’t think it would be as good as the first one, the one that I was in, because it was the right timing, the right place.”
He also discusses if there will be a Rush Hour 4, his relationship with Michael Jackson, and a possible Frank Sinatra movie. He said he’s developing and producing a bunch of movies, so it depends on which ones get picked up. Finally, when talking about the newer generation of comedians, Chris says: “It ain’t nobody out there really that just make me crack up. There’s not, that’s why I said I got to get back out there. Because I’m not laughing no more like I used to, so I got to keep the torch going.” He did acknowledge Kevin Hart, saying he’s really good.
