So “Iron Man 2” took in a hefty $133.6 million on its opening weekend in the U.S. and Canada and hopefully the positive buzz that it’s getting should keep it playing well for several weeks to come. The “Iron Man 2” opening is the fifth highest of all time, not accounting for ticket-price inflation, and a sign that audience interest in the Marvel Entertainment character has grown significantly since the original “Iron Man” opened with $98.6 million in 2008.
Two years ago, Marvel seemed to be taking a risk on “Iron Man,” a character not well known beyond comic book fans, as well as on Downey, an actor that was coming out of rehab who wasn’t known as an action star. Since then “Iron Man” has become so popular that pre-release surveys are already showing huge interest in another sequel.
Now as with every Marvel movie if you leave before the end of the credits you’re cheating yourself because amidst all the metal and mayhem in Iron Man 2, Marvel would also like to remind fans that the next movie to be released will be Thor, and the best way to do that is with a tease…

Chris Hemsworth has been confirmed to play the Norse thunder god. Hemsworth played James T. Kirk’s father in the recently rebooted Star Trek franshise. Thor opens May 20, 2011, with direction from Kenneth Branagh and starring Hemsworth; Anthony Hopkins as Thor’s father, Odin; Natalie Portman as Thor’s love interest & Tom Hiddleston as the villainous Loki.
So now that “Iron Man 2” is behind us “Thor” and “The First Avenger: Captain America” coming down the line in 2011 the Avengers movie may turn out to be a super hero version of Ocean’s 11. Downey and Don Cheadle both signed up to reprise their “Iron Man” roles in “Avengers,” and “Iron Man” director Jon Favreau will be an executive-producer. Meanwhile, Edward Norton, who played Hulk in the 2008 film, hasn’t committed to reprising his role, but Hulk is set to appear in the film. Scarlett Johansson, who played Black Widow in “Iron Man 2,” is said to have a juicy role for her character in “Avengers.” Chris Hemsworth will be back as Thor and Chris Evans has signed up as Captain America for his solo flick and”Avengers.”
Now a movie like Iron Man, is the perfect platform for launching a cross-marketing campaign and LG Electronics has jumped on the bandwagon. LG has launched a multi-platform marketing campaign stressing the super powers its wireless technology can give the average person.
