French Montana joined The Breakfast Club to discuss his past moves, recent success, and his plans for the future. He discusses his deal with Akon saying its was a “shopping deal,” and that they shopped him around to different labels. French said, “I ain’t never liked the deals that was offered from the labels.” Angela asked him what he didn’t like about the labels offer. “They wasn’t giving you that much money, and they wanted everything from you,” he said. French said what the labels were offering didn’t equal out financially when he could make the same money on his own. Charlamagne asked him about making records with down south energy, and he talked about moving down south and getting with Mizay Entertainment.
When discussing what label he was going to sign with, French said, “I got a call from Kanye [West] the other night, [Rick] Ross already there, Deb [Antney] working on a couple deals with the labels, shout out to J Records, Def Jam always there.” Envy asked him about being a hard artist to work with because he’s used to working independently. He talks about Max B fighting his appeal and the “totally false” rumor that 50 Cent was bailing Max out.
Charlamagne said that French was a drama king at one point with all his beefs. “Thats what got me blackballed for so long,” he said. Ang asked him if it was Jim Jones who blackballed him on New York radio. “I wouldn’t say it was ol boy,” French said. It was a “rap beef” and “I was bored.”
French discusses his ideal label situation and waiting to sign his deal. “I want to be with the right movement, someone thats going to put my project out now,” he said. French said he’s “the hottest rapper right now with no deal.” Him and Waka Flocka have an album coming out and Angela asked him what its like working with Waka’s mom Deb. French compares what he’s doing with his movement to Nicki Minaj.
