Diggy Simmons: Life of a Jetsetter

Diggy Simmons is gearing up to release his debut album Unexpected Arrival on March 20. He just startedĀ Life of the Jetsetter tour and he returned to The Breakfast Club to discuss all that’s going on in his 16 year old life; from Run’s House, to breaking out on the “Made You Look” freestyle, consistent touring, and releasing good singles.

Charlamagne saw one of his shows and said when Diggy came out, he just stood there and the crowd went crazy. Angela asked Diggy if he’s starting to feel himself a little. “Nah, part of being on stage is of course confidence. I’m super thankful for everything thats going on. I don’t take anything for granted and I always just take the time to really smell the roses… Like last night before I went to sleep. I got my album packaging and the thank you’s, how everything is going to be when it’s in the album. So that was like a surreal moment for me.”

Diggy discusses his relationship with his older brother JoJo and C tha God explains that he thinks, “JoJo should be to Diggy what Russell was to Run.”

“JoJo, he does his thing. I would never be like, “Be a part of what I want to do.’ If he wanted to be, of course, that’s my brother. With everybody, no matter who it is, whether it’s my sisters, we all need something from each other, we’ll always provide it or let each other be apart of whatever it is; but he does his own thing.”

Diggys initial reaction to filmingĀ Runs House:

“Honestly, I didn’t want to do it at first. I remember when we first got the call to do ‘Runs House’. I was in third grade and my dad said it and I was mad. I was like, ‘I just want to be a normal kid.’ I was crying. I was that mad about it. And then he was like, ‘You don’t have a choice.’ So of course I went along to do it and I got used to it and I ended up liking it for sure”

“People are always like you got where you were because of your dad or because of the show. And really, what the show did to my advantage was, of course people want to say, I wonder what Diggy is going to do, that is a part of what would make them look in my direction of course, that doesn’t mean you have to like me but since you saw me on the show you want to see what’s Diggy gonna rap about.”

Diggy talks about his Chivalrous Culture sneaker line, it’s under the same distributor as his sisters but they’re not involved. He discusses his tour experiences and lessons he’s learned on the road, loosing his voice and how he takes care of it, if he talks about sex with his father, and what his littler brother Russy is up too.
