Lloyd returned to The Breakfast Club to address his former boss/mentor Irv Gotti‘s recent outburst. They played Irv’s comments from MTV’s Rap Fix where he said he had “no love” for Lloyd that if he saw he was hit by a car, he would keep walking. Lloyd responds:

“It just sounds to me like he’s a lot bitter. He might be in a weird place in his life, in his career. He’s just lashing out. He’s had a lot happen to him in the past few years and maybe he’s taking it out on me because we did have a really, really awesome relationship which was bigger than music. I didn’t grow up with a father, my father was killed when I was a kid, and I didn’t know a lot of successful people coming from where I was from. He’s also a father. I learned a lot from him when I was much younger. I’m very appreciative for that. But me working with the likes of 50 Cent or Lloyd Banks. I don’t really think I got to explain myself, I can do what the f*ck I want to do. I can work with who I want to work with. I just make music.”

Lloyd discusses his single “You” saying that record revived Gotti’s career. He discusses his brief stint on Atlantic Records saying, “Through just some legal stuff, it didn’t turn out my way. I ended up having to release more music under the moniker of The Inc. [Irv] wasn’t letting go, and it wasn’t even about that because I had love for them, and I could still do my thing.” He admitted that what he did wasn’t loyal but that he had to survive and look out for him and his family.

“My whole community just got struck by Hurricane Katrina,” Lloyd says. “My family lost everything. I had about 13 people living with me in my house in Atlanta. U-haul caravans behind the house with everybody’s shit in it. And I was going through a tough patch in my life. Both financially and personally. Irv was my big brother and I reached out to him for help. He didn’t come through for me when I needed his help. It was something really small, but I’m not going to dwell on it.”

DJ Envy pointed out that Irv was going through his legal stuff and might not have had what Lloyd needed at the time. Lloyd responds, “He was. And because of that I understand. And because of that, I had to do what I had to do, you see what I’m saying.” Charlamagne Tha God asked why Irv isn’t mad at Ashanti when she did the same thing as Lloyd. Angela Yee said Irv was in love with Ashanti. “That’s a complicated subject, it goes a little deeper than just music,” Lloyd says.

He discusses working with 50 Cent and Lloyd Banks saying, “When I heard the record with Banks, I always was skeptical because I already knew what people would say. But the music was so dope and he was jamming, and I had to be like, ‘I can’t let this dictate my life or my career. and I just got to do my thing. My motto is always, Lets build these bridges, lets stop burning them.’ But I was kind’ve delivered into a burnt bridge. So I had to build my own path.” He said he has no ill feelings against Irv and he “prays for his happiness.”

Lloyd says he spoke to Ja Rule about it and Rule told him how he felt about it. He reassured Ja it wasn’t vengeful, it was just good music. He discusses touring with Lil Wayne, regrets of not signing with Young Money, new situation with Interscope and Jimmy Iovine, and he’s working on some Christmas music.
