Don’t Quit Your Day Job – Tsi LaBrev

Weigh In:  Should Tsi LaBrev Quit His Day Job?

Born and raised in the Bronx, Tsi LaBrev has forged his own brand of in your face hiphop by calling on the many experiences he had growing up in the melting pot that is New York City. His music is a blend of everything that is important to him and is oftentimes his avenue for expression in this brainfucking world. Everything that makes us human is uniquely expressed through Tsi’s music. From violence to comedy, politics to sex, his music touches on every subject and topic one might feel or think about and is the doorway to a better understanding of the man who created it.  While honing his rapid fire, in your face rhyme style, Tsi listened to emcees that impressed him and he created a hybrid flow with many styles influenced by many of the best lyricists to ever touch a mic. One of the more obvious influences was the late Big Punisher. Others include Kool G. Rap, Chino XL, Black Thought and Nas just to name a few.

Tsi brings more to the table than the generic street corner rapper might, with their simple rhyme schemes. He wants the listener to be struck by his passionate flow, aggressive demeanor on the mic, and his desire to communicate more than just what is said. Like most kids growing up in the inner city Tsi used to play with words and attempt to rap, but it wasn’t until high school that he took rap seriously enough to form a group with three other emcees and go on to do local shows and talent contests. They opened up for the likes of Necro, and MF Doom and performed at the legendary underground hiphop staples S.O.B’s and the Nuyorican Poets Cafe.

After some time away from public performances Tsi is currently reloading the arsenal and attempting to capture the streets by appearing on mixtapes and doing shows throughout the New York City hoping to bring his music to a larger audience. Tsi recently opened up for the Beatnuts in Brooklyn at an underground legends concert series. JuJu from the Beatnuts described him as the future of Hip Hop and shouted Tsi out during the Beatnuts set. They are currently trying to collaborate. Tsi also has a strong following in the New York area, especially in his hometown of the Bronx. Instead of the all too common promises of “saving rap music” or “changing the game” Tsi knows that it takes more than words to create a movement, so he leaves audiences with one thought about his music, “Like it or don’t fuckheads”.

  2. If you wanna hear some epic, ambitious hip hop, you should check out my Spaghetti Western Concept Rap album, called “Showdown at the BK Corral.” It’s basically an epic Spaghetti Western over 9 hip hop tracks – very influenced by Wu Tang and Morricone. You can download it for free at sunsetparkriders.com
